BlondeAmb...Maybe you can tell us WHY, WHY WHY?????

Why is our govt so stupid????

I've inspected a great many of those trailers so I know that what you're saying is true. They're a piece of shit! Why doesn't the govt look around and find better trailers for cheaper?

This is why people hate the govt...because they do the most absurd stuff...they waste our tax dollars on a daily basis.

Yeah, I heard there were thousands of trailers that were just sitting in a lot and that they would not distribute a lot of them to homeless people after the hurricane due to red tape issues with the government.

They paid over 30,000USD for those trailers.......they were horrible and in cheap condition....also they found carcinogens in them....I know the real value of those trailers......they could have gotten something a lot better that I use to provide to the US troops for around 10,000-11,000 and they are the top of the line living units....they are rapid deployment buildings.......it makes me sick.

Passion--- Same thing happened with "wind" damage to my place this
summer. I had coverage, but a big deductible, so it was the same as not having any. Fortunately, friends helped me clear away the fallen trees and rebuild my deck. I'll bet that most people don't know about the "wind" loophole.

Sorry Maggie ! I guess it can be depressing -
Ernesto is hung up in Cuba right now. He's weakening, but a strong tropical storm can still cause tremendous flooding so I hope people don't grow lax and unconcerned.

Passion, I tried to watch some of that Katrina documentary, but it depresses me.  I just can't do it.  I can't believe that we donate all this money for those unfortunate people and it never reaches them.  We just won't do it anymore.

So, do you know that you're going to FL?  I haven't been following Ernesto today - I'm not aware of where he's at or what he's up to.  I'm sorry, Passion, but I do hope he turns around and goes out to sea or something..  I don't want to see the grief again.  Hope you are feeling ok.

PatB...I hadn't heard of the Spike Lee documentary!
Thanks. It sounds like something I'd love.

Avant--It makes you sick to be part of the human race sometimes.
How could State Farm do this to its customers...these are families who lost everything.

Even better -- I watched Spike Lee's documentary on HBO
"After the Levees Fell" was a wake-up call.  We're not taking very good care of ourselves, not preparing for emergencies, for even a 3-day time frame with no power...  It's not just FEMA - it's us, too.  As for the poverty, the failure of city, state and federal helping agencies - that's a whole 'nother rant. :)  Thanks for your interesting post.

It's sad to see such blatant disregard for human life. Money is the most important thing to most of us human beings. It is so obvious.

WritersBlok..I know that Red Cross isn't perfect.

But if they had not been out there on those desolate, broken streets and highways, thousands of emergency relief workers and what few residents were left, would have gone hungry and thirsty.

Though they dont provide the best food in the world, at least they gave us a hot meal each day. They also distributed water and ice whenever possible and so did the National Guard.

IN every disaster I've ever been in, the Red Cross got there as quickly as FEMA did and they stayed as long as they were needed.

Red Cross has re-vamped their programs and promises to do an even better job this year.

Unless you and your neighbors wanna meet us in Miami just after hurricane Ernesto moves out, we still need to be supporting the Red Cross with our money and prayers.

I learned my lesson by giving to the Red Cross after 9/11!
For Katrina, I only gave supplies to folks who were actually driving to the areas to distribute them or checks to folks who knew specific folks impacted by it. It is unfortunate that has to be the case.
