I've always just seen this as one big field. I like to play different roles at different times. I don't understand people who can compartmentalize themselves so well.
When I was a business manager at the U of MD, I hired an accounting clerk who also worked at the university. she was in Accounts Payable. She told us she work on the U's. We all really thought she was kidding, and thought she had a great sense of humor. Well, she really confinued herself to accounts starting with "U". She was an absolute nightmare. It was a small department. The rule was whether you were the secretary or director of the place, if you were the one going upstairs, you'd get the mail. We were an easy going bunch. Not this woman. She used the classified state system, and made me a list of what was in her job description, and she was going to do no more. Horror.

I had that same problem with only being able to use the subject space for a while. I didn't fix it. It just sort of fixed itself...which is good since I couldn't have fixed it.

Don't let it bother you. A lot of great writers have edited along the way.
