Oh Corbin
I best not go into this one today because my daughter has decided to go into spoiled brat mode the past few days and let's just say I am now considered mean and rotten.
I will not tolerate a child who is not respectful.

Sad to say it, but I almost think we need another depression/mega-war to bring us back to our default settings. Since the hippies, values have plummeted and things have gotten progressively more bizarre and F'd up. Anyway, super post. I like the way you think...

Corbin it is not nice to make the girls cry. This is the most moving
post I've read in a long time. I missed the depression but it was right on my heels and I heard so much first hand. I did live through WWII. I hope my children/grandchildren learn they are not more important than the whole of society. That a limousine and staying out all night is not what prom is all about. That sex still is best kept for marriage and that lying is self degrading. That there is honor in sacrifice for the whole of a good thing. Personally I want mine to know God knows each and every thought they have and loves them anyway.

Respect and Doing Things Decently and in Order
In addition making sure that regardless to money in the home, to learn to survive by making good decisions and resolving conflict well. Fill them with knowledge, so they will be well prepared when tests in life appear. Good post!

Corbin, I liked your reference to getting a car given to them at age 16..
I got my 1st car at age 21 and had to borrow money from the credit union to get it
Thats what I would hope for today's kids..some way some how develop a respect for money and realize it doesnt grow on trees, get into savings (ie, RRSP's) and don't touch them

...all of that, plus the excitement of learning, how awesome are nature's wonders; and the satisfaction of finishing a chore.
