This was very well written! Quite poetic with good cadence!
Although there are happier things to write about, I believe that to write of war and it's results is equivalent with recording history. Just done in a different genre! Good job!

Such a waste isn't it?

and  I can see in this poem not only the wide scope of battlefields but the more personal struggles too.  How could any mother not feel sad that so many sons - and now daughters too - go off to war?

I wrote this poem on demand for a twelve year old student of mine, to help her out with her homework, she liked it so I thougt I might as well post it. I thought it was a bit grim myself, but such are the colours of war. She only gave the title and I just ran with it. It's amazing what comes out when you try,...
