I rough camped in the rockies once and it rained all night!
I had put pine branches under the tent, put big flat rocks on the fire as I slept and turned a dead log upside down before bedding down. Next all was soaked but I was dry, comfy, flipped the rocks out of the fire to reveal still hot coals, reached under the rotted log to scrape out dry rotted wood, blew up a fire with no matches and cooked bacon and eggs! Now, that was heaven!

Swftfox, I had to come back again today to look at the Colorado condo and mountain stream again.   I can't believe that I didn't even leave a comment yesterday.   I love places like this in Colorado.   Even spent the night in mining ghosttown cabins a time or two and listened to the night critters scrounging around nearby.

Hey, Black Pearl Long time no see! Gold that is! hahaha
I think I watched that show a few times, but it wasn't until 1991 (I was about 30) that I discovered my love and the reality of my roots in that time period. Now I wish I had been born 150 years ago!

swftfox, where's the gold? I've my glasses on and still missed it.
Cool pictures of the cabin, too.  Also, did you like the TV show Grizzly Adams, from the 70's?  I remember liking it, but I don't think it stayed on the air long.  Just wondering.  You said you like stuff like that in your "About Me' page.  Thanks.  :)

Not this time Passionflower, but I'm going back! Want to go to some
area nobody goes to and do some panning. Just for fun, course it won't hurt my feelings to find a great big old nugget!

Yes, we scouted around and found food tins that appear tobe from the 40's
or 50's. There was also some nail usage in the cabins (there were actually two) and since they were round nails and not square, they could not be too old. I think it was a pretty recent build and I'm leaning towards the 1950 mark.

sounds like some good bonding time with your son...
Oh yes, and I'm jealous!  LOL  Any idea how old the cabins are?

Groovy! hahaha Haven;t heard that one in a while!
No gold but had a good time, which is worth more anyway! Wanna be jealous? I'm going back up there in a week for a week. Will chase some business, help my kid with some projects and fish for some trout and maybe, just maybe hunt for some gold. One of my dreams I WILL achieve one day is to go back into the moutains where nobody ever goes and do some panning! Never know what you'll find! The mountains are scattered with these abandoned cabins!
