I agree, sometimes it is easier to start again.
Some students develop their own writing style very earlier on, and this is something of a gift, the hallmark the signature of the writer, but I think some people just don't have it and some do. I get really frustrated when I read some French that sounds like translated English, I even find it in textbooks! I know some people find me pedantic and arrogant, but too bad. It is my language after all, and I don't like what people do to it. Really, I don't slam people for their mistakes, but I can't ignore them, and let it slide.

Marie-Claire--- And another thing . . . You mentioned rewriting as opposed
to editing. Editing a poorly written piece is much harder work than simply rewriting it.

sir I did pick some of the mistakes, do I get some brownie points.
oh you probably don't even say "brownie" points, anyway if this is an invitation to nit pick on people's writing, I love doing that to people, but they don't always appreciate it, so I usually refrain, I once rewrote poetjbe entire paragraph, (adding some of my own creativity along with fresh mistakes...) and she swallowed her pride and listened to me ignoramus that I am.... any ay, sometimes I can tell something is wrong but I cannot always put my finger on it. This is a good demonstration of the editing process, very useful, it is hard to be objective with your own writing and it pays to leave it alone for a few days and have a fresh look later on if you have the luxury of time on your hand. I find it hard to correct kid's work in French I find myself rewriting the whole thing because it is off to such an awkward start, I am usually far too fussy and ruthless, not always popular. Ok, I stop for now. The weather is disgusting so I am leaving my "droppings" all over the blog.
