xenox, I agree with you on at least one thing:
sex SHOULD be freely discussed by parents with their children. Kids should hear all about sex in a safe environment with their parents. The subject should definitely NOT be repressed and is a topic of utmost importance that should occur between parent and child. Optimally, they should hear about it from their parents before discussed even with friends.

actually i would suppose that if the truth were known, sexual repression is
the primary culprit
and all those sex is sin attitudes and kids grow up not understanding sex and gong off into deviancies.
sex should be more openly discussed and youth given more knowledge -- not a back room, hidden from the parents thing --

Shamsuddin, I would agree.
The majority who've been exposed to, or who enjoy porn, do not become violent offenders. But I believe it nonetheless can have a profoundly negative effect on someone.

LeRoy, I agree.
Also, as this article by Klein mentioned, people from all walks of life watch porn, including pastors. Which is sad but I am sure more common than any of us could imagine.

Kooka that was a good convincing article by Klein. I'm glad to have read it
That said, I still have some major concerns about porn. It may well be OK for a husband and wife to enjoy it together -- as per the personal example you provided. On the flip side, I have heard too many stories (albeit anecdotal, of which your Dr Klein does not approve) of men who have become addicted to porn, which may have eventually led to an affair and then divorce. It's really hard for a woman to compete with the gorgeous porn star her husband sees on the TV screen. So he gets it off watching TV while his wife is waiting for him at home, slowly dying inside and desperate for time with him. Needless to say, Klein has not convinced me as to the "wholesomeness" of porn.
Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Janes is right
Just ask any refugee from the porn industry if it is victimless. There are countless horror stories. These fantasies this industry produces do nothing but take, take, take, and never truly give back.

Kookla makes some good points
in my humble opinion not all of which, I agree with. While all sex ofenders may have had exposer to porn, certainly, not all who have been exposed to porn become sex offensive.

What has actually been proven is that rapists and
those who perform sexual crimes are attracted to porn. Porn has never once been
proven to be the cause of the crimes or to have had any influence on people to
cause crimes. It is like claiming that heavy metal music causes teens to kill
themselves or that violent video game promote gang fighting. All those things
have been around for way too long, since before porn, heavy metal music and
video games. And all of those things have been WORSE in the past then they are
today, when we have more porn, heavy metal music and violent video games than
ever before.
My wife and I enjoy porn together some times. It
can actually help a healthy relationship become healthier.
By your logic most of the people I know should be
mentally unstable, since all of my friends have been open about enjoying porn.
I won't go into what I know about my parents and porn, but they are very
mentally healthy.
What it is is that those who have issue to begin
with can be messed up by porn, just like they can be messed up by watching
certain cartoons or the local news.
Porn is not a crime at all and is not the reason
behind the problems. The problem would be there with or without porn. if
anything porn most likely helps keep some people form committing sexual crimes,
since they can get themselves off and get into the fantasy of it
all.

The victim situations are different, perhaps, but each addiction involves victims. Thank you for sharing.

This crime is an addiction but it goes so far that the actual contactual sexual behavior of the parties badly addicted is forever altered, the satisfaction and arousal levels are different. It is a horrid problem for men, women and unfortunately for our teens. We need to have more and more of those groups. Like Kingmi said, it must be treated as any addiction as a beginning point but needs to go further. NO IT IS NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME!!!!

JanesOpinion, It is estimated that there is a 75% addiction rate to pornography. Whenever there is an addiction to pornography, there are victims.

xenox and fwmystic, there have been enough anecdotal stories
about teens whose plunge into sexual violence and deviance started after they looked at their first hard core porno mag. Perhaps they were troubled, or from troubled homes as well, but it was this porn that got them going off the deep end.
You seem to bend over backwards to defend pornography, which is something I find pretty telling.

Rumored_Intelligence, thank you for your very intelligent response. I think it's like cocaine. You never know, until you take the first hit of coke, whether you'll be addicted. Many are, many are not.

people who tend toward sexual deviancy
probably have a tendency to pornography
pornography does not necessarily push people toward sexual deviancy.
more people who are not deviant view pornography than are.

Why are Americans so conflicted about sex?
Janet Jackson pops a boob and the country go nuts. Porn is such a big industry because of we get such mixed messages about sex from religion and society.

JANE
I think an addiction to anything can be harmful. One could be addicted to alcohol, food, drugs, or even porn, which could lead too a trouble lifestyle. In moderation all is normal. I remember all the bachelor parties I went to when I was younger. Somehow I managed to survive minus all my one-dollar bills.
