Very interesting YPunday

but not surprising unfortunately in my experience. My representative in Congress, John Hostettler allegedly took a rather odd stance against breast cancer research several years ago:

Hostettler escalates war with breast cancer survivors

"Eleven breast-cancer survivors said they're dismayed because they claim a congressman is calling them a liar.
The women met with Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind., on April 30 to seek his support for breast-cancer research, but said all he wanted to talk about was a link between abortion and breast cancer.
Hostettler has denied that, and his recent campaign letter described the women as being on a smear campaign and says their accusations "never happened."
"Hostettler has had hundreds of very controversial and emotional meetings, but, again, never has he been accused of behavior these ladies have concocted."
Those statements were in the "August Hostettler Hotline."
The women stand by their accusations.
"All 11 can't be wrong about what happened that day," the women wrote in a letter sent Wednesday to newspapers across the 8th Congressional District.
Their letter reiterated earlier statements that when they attempted to talk with Hostettler about their legislative priorities, he "brought up the topic of abortion as the cause of breast cancer" and "made many (of the women) feel he was insinuating that they had had an abortion."
"We know he's saying we are lying," said Coral Cochran of Terre Haute, Ind., one of the women who attended the meeting. Hostettler has declined to talk with the Evansville Courier & Press since the newspaper's initial report about the April 30 meeting in Hostettler's Washington office.
The women, in the letter published in Thursday's Courier & Press, said they are not politically motivated and do not want to be used as political ploys."

I have family members who are friends of Mr. Hostettler's and have met him once or twice. I think the 11 ladies are telling the truth. He possesses an extreme religious view on all matters. And I wouldn't doubt there is corporate influence involved, as far as researching enviromental links is concerned; affecting not only Mr. H.'s priorities but those of numerous lawmakers. The usual power and greed reasons.

Thank you for posting this.
