TAPS, no heart failure for you, dearie!

Although speaking of heart failure, I am concerned that my darling auld dog is anemic.  Her tongue just isn't the nice deep pink it used to be, and she is fatiguing more than usual.  It's hard to say whether the fatigue is heat induced, old age induced, perhaps a little hypothyroid and/or anemia -- or all of the above.  She is a full DNR, although I may schedule a visit with the vet for my old pal to get a check up.

I hate to see her age; she's been such a great dog.

But yes, the fighting amongst dogs is not a fun thing to see.  I completely agree.

JanesOpinion, those kind of confrontations (between dogs) make me feel like I am going to have heart failure.

Thanks Justi.
But as long as I've got the auld girl on my side, I believe she would give her life for me.  She is pretty special!

Jane's
Cute story of your sister's children. I am sorry about the other one. Hope you don't run into them again. :)

ha, yeah Pat B -- if my dog spoke for me it would be
"thanks, I'll have more ice cream please . . . ."  Doesn't that sound good with all this dreadful hot weather???

Blanche, thanks for commenting!

I agree that it is frightening how too many dog owners don't recognize the potential for harm with dogs.  They have long, sharp teeth!  They can cause harm!  Which is why I keep my darling auld mutt under control at all times when out walking and when children, strangers or other dogs and critters are around.  Sheesh, but it's only common sense!

Yeah, I was proud of Solomon, too.  What a great, plucky dog.  But because of his extreme loyalty to his kids, he will bite if provoked, or if he thinks they are being harmed, so they have had to really keep control over him so he doesn't harm strangers!  And yet he is the sweetest, gentlest dog with people he knows!

Irresponsible dog owners need some training.
I used to love to ride a bike around town, looking at landscaped yards and the park and all. But so many irresponsible owners let their dogs run free, and so many dogs love to chase bikes, I gave it up.  I have a sneaking hunch that owners their dogs speak for them. I'm thinking they'd like to own the whole sidewalk and their dog expresses their own bullying impulse.

JanesOpinion, I've had a dog owner say virtually the exact same words,

while her dog was savagely snapping and growling at my ankles.  There seems to be an almost comical form of self-delusion that some dog owners fall into that even their own eyes and ears won't disabuse them of: that is their dear dog is incapable of violence. Never mind, that their dear dog is droolinig and snarling to get at your dog (or my ankles), they simply cannot accept the evidence in front of them.

I wonder at their conditional version of love, isn't it possible to love your dog as they are, and still recognize that they are an animal with animal instincts which cannot be completely controlled or prevented and still love themm and take steps to prevent them from doing harm?  I wonder.

I am glad to hear that your Auld Mutt is unharmed and your sister's dog, who was so sweet as to jump in and attempt to swim to her kids' "rescue".
