but people have to add things up
check out what the bottom line might be.
in this case, maybe a little subtraction is in order -- subtract from a natural state -- environment, ecology, etc. -- balance of nature -- etc. -- subtract from the economy as it stands (shaky though it is).
we need to drop the scales from our eyes.
