Kevin, I'm afraid I won't be able to be much help.
The info is from www.frc.org (family research council) but this was posted in July, taken from one of their email action alerts.  I went to their website to see if they were posted, but could not find it . . . but admit to not doing an exhaustive search.  Good luck and thanks for commenting!

Wow! Can you cite the reference where you found this info?
Specifically, either a transcript of the broadcast with the date and time, or a weblink to a transcript, article, or other verifiable source? It's outrageous that we do more to protect pedophiles and rapists in our society than we do to protect the innocence and very lives of our children. Also, I doubt that fwmystic really wants us "zealots" to talk to children about sex. God forbid if we should encourage them to keep their pants on and not murder their babies.

ha ha ha, ceemarie, good one.
Yes, a pair of rose colored glasses would likely be helpful . . . although, shucks, I do like my "reality" TV every now and then (NOT).

You are ever so welcome, Jane-
Oh, my, it is so much cooler up here than down in the hotbed of controversy.  We like to say this is where cooler heads prevail.  (and if the sun gets in your eyes, we can fit you with a pair of rose-colored glasses!)
Blessings and peace to you,
CeeMarie

ceemarie, why thank you for that gracious invitation!

Is it cooler up there in the clouds???  If so, I'm IN!

Jane
I'm a little late in responding, but I've been in the clouds a lot lately.  Too much misery going on down there.  Liberals, conservatives, neutrals,  all are welcome up here in the land of rolling white puffs.  It's much nicer than those who chose sand to stick their heads into, no grit and much cooler.  Welcome, dear lady!

Writer, that's a good one. I'm glad you were set free!
You seem to have recovered well from the lunacy.

Don't feel bad, Jane!
I was an inmate in the Golden State Liberal Lunaic Asylum during the Moonbeam Brown administration. Yikes!

WritersBlok, you are right, I am making an assumption.

I am angry to think of the alternative -- such as what you mention.  But I know you make a sadly very valid point.

Thanks for adding to the discussion!

I have always perceived the removal of parental consent
as an added protection for kids who are being abused by a parent. You are assuming all parents out there have their kids' best interest at heart. Unfortunately, it could be the parent impregnating the child (as sick as that sounds!!).

Thanks Blanche, for your prayers.
I will likely see this person tomorrow and will be able to find out how she is doing.  I'm concerned about her, but at the same time I believe that somehow good can come from these trials of hers.

ceemarie, thanks for your perspective, you kind bleeding heart!

Trust me, I do see your point.  It's just that I believe God provided parents to, well, be PARENTS for crying out loud!  And that means love and loving discipline and teaching values . . . . OK, well, perhaps I'm not living in the real world.  Perhaps my head is off in the clouds.

Thanks for stopping by.

Jane-
After spending 21 years teaching in secondary schools, in an inner-city urban small town, you wouldn't believe some of the sad stories I could pass on, and the counselors could overflow with even sadder ones.   I  have to vote lib on this one; some parents shouldn't be parents.  They aren't even caretakers.  They are users or still children themselves,  never growing up....... Having children of my own, I couldn't imagine mishandling what I consider God's loan of a soul to raise in love, with His help, and some take that concept too far.  Radical right or left can lead to serious abuse and misuse.  Sorry........ I'm a bleeding heart........ I put the minors needs before the parents ' "rights" since children really have no rights.  That is changing somewhat, now, but slowly.

I will say one for her right now, JanesOpinion, and I understand what you
mean about needing time to get in the right frame of mind. It's not as though these things will be settled anytime soon anyway.  Have a good evening. I'll be signing off shortly myself as Gideon is on his way home.

Blanche, I cannot do justice to your comment tonight.

I ended up doing a three hour impromptu counseling session with/for a friend (started as dinner at her house . . .) and have just arrived home and need to hit the hay.  So I shall ponder tomorrow.  Always good chatting with you.  And if you think of it, say a prayer for this friend; her spirit is troubled.

And Justi, as always, thanks for your comments!

JanesOpinion, I'd have to read the amendments to get a clearer picture,

but something puzzled me in your post.  You mentioned that Sen. Barbara Boxer introduced an amendment to allow an exemption in the case of incest, and then said that, in that case, "An 18 year old brother could take his 16 year old sister across state lines and never tell his parents or law enforcement that he impregnated his sister".  That's a pretty big leap in logic, to postulate a scenario where the abusive brother, further compounds his unspeakable act by sneaking his sister across state lines and forcing her to get an abortion.

That almost seems to equate the two as equally heinous acts.  If a brother is perpetrating such a vile act in his own family, odds are the parents may not be receptive to hearing the truth, they may be complicit in their denial.  Also, if the girl needs services of this kind, probably she would not turn to the brother who violated her to relieve her of the terrible consequences. She would be too ashamed.

I have not read James Carville or Paul Begala's book, but I don't base my opinions on political hacks in any case.  Thought-provoking post, as usual, JanesOpinion, and it is nice dialoging with you.

Jane's
This is a good post. We always have to be on the lookout for someone to tag something onto a bill that we never hear about. Your comments are very interesting too. I look forward to reading more about all this. I agree with Blanche Coombs has a radio face. I am looking forward to seeing some good discussions comeing from this. Young girls pregnant is a sad situation at best.

Thank you, Janes, I need to re-read your post carefully and consider my
points.  I have learned that much blogging, lol.  And thank you for the compliment, although, comparatively speaking I wouldn't have to go far to beat poor Alan Coombs. He has a face made for radio, as they used to say.  (so did Paul Harvey). Anyway, have a good sleep.  Tomorrow is another day!

posted by Blanche. on July 25, 2006 at 7:33 PM | link to this | reply

Blanche, although not having seen a photo of you, I'd have to believe

you're a LOT better looking than poor Alan.

Secondly, I think I wrote something wrong.  I made a comment about something occuring at the expense of the family.  Not what I meant!  (I need to go to bed.) Anyway, it breaks my heart to think of a family torn apart, incest occuring, with parents favoring one child over the other, or not wanting to hear about a pregnancy for fear of embarrassment or loss of reputation, or . . . . For crying out loud!  It's YOUR kid involved who has been desperately hurt.  Love her, care for her, listen to her!!!!  (OK, I'll calm down.)

Anyway, I look forward to reading your thoughts (tomorrow; I'm going to bed now).  I hope your dinner was delicious!  And yes, you are one of my fav liberals.  I value your perspective.

Wow, Janes, that's a lot to respond to, so I'll take my time and mull over

a few points while I get something to munch on.  I've just realized it's 7:00 pm and I haven't eaten dinner.

PS, thank you for including me on your list of favorite liberals.  I'd like to think I'm at least as articulate as Coombs, and maybe just a little better-looking.

Blanche, Blanche, Blanche!

I know you're a liberal.  And in all honesty, after posting this post I thought of you.  "Hmmmm, I like Blanche01, and this could be seen as an insult to one of my fav liberals . . . ." But I posted nonetheless, primarily because the post mentioned two liberals mentioned who agreed that parental notification is vital and should not be changed!  And I would agree with THEM!

So here's where I'm coming from (albeit I'm not a middle aged male, just so we're clear):  I am very much NOT in favor of allowing teen boys who've raped their sisters free passage to another state for an abortion. This will only cover up the terrible deed and continue the pain.  There's a good chance that the incest will continue.   I realize it's possible that enough screwed up parents will believe the son over the daughter, will not support the daughter, and those who are the most deranged will possibly even cause harm to the daughter.  I want you to know that I HATE the thought that harm could come to these girls at the expense of family members.  At the same time, however, I would like to believe that somehow there can be a system whereby a girl can have access -- either before or after an abortion -- to a safe place where she can receive counseling and love and care.  Preferably that safe place will come from her parents.  But if not, then from a crisis pregnancy center in her area.

Having cared for girls after an abortion, and seen the emotional anguish, I'm all for decreasing the # of abortions, and supporting crisis preg centers (which, by the way, I do . . . put my money where my mouth is).

As always, I look forward to dialoguing with you.

JanesOpinion, if I ever thought that my opinions would be listened to with
an open mind and heart, rationally, rather than with the group concensus below, I might want to discuss this.  Has anyone ever asked themselves why it is that so many anti-abortionists are middle-aged or older?  And quite often men?

Again, fwmystic, no surprise coming from you!
Actually, I know quite a number of "zealots," to borrow your word, who taught sex education at a very young age -- and amazing!  There have been no abortions.  I agree with you that parents NEED to teach their kids about sex.

Maybe if you zealots would spend more time talking ...
to young people about sex, maybe we'd have less need for abortion clinics.
