The picture is not working for me

So what was the symbol we might use instead?

Let us not forget the historical underpinnings of the cross.  For the early church it became a symbol reminding all of the sacrificial atonement of Jesus in freely choosing death as a way to end the Jewish sacrificial system forever.  The sacrifice of the Lamb of God, makes humans practicing sacrifice as a way to deal with personal and corporate sin no longer necessary.  Powerful symbol, The Cross, the Final Altar.

I completely agree with you
Jesus did not die in a cross, and even if he had, it is not right to use the instrument of his death as a worshiping symbol!!

the cross as a symbol
has power
as do other symbols

it is still jsut a symbol

it is noting to be worshipped.

even the image is an artifact -- and people go crazily around searching for artifacts and forgetting the rea lthing -- the message

"inasmuch as yo uhave done it to the least of these, yo have done it to me."

and they continually forget that.

we have so many poor and disadvantaged inthis country and what do we do?

get all undone over symbols and words and phrases -- Jesus said to feed the poor, etc.  hs misson was to free captives and announce joyous tidings -- etc.

more people live in poverty now than have in a long time.  more people are ignored and forgotten

when you can say that you are servng the poor and forgotten, then you can say that your symbol stands for something

but don't make more out of it than it really is.

don't worship it --

Xeno -
I saw the Passion of the Christ and I  still agree with you and say hmmmm. I do think however, that there is a lot of power in the cross, regardless of how Jesus saw it.

He'd probably have said " Oh no! Not another of them damned cross things!"

Back in ( I think ) the 1950s, archaeologists found remains of a man ( Yohanan Ha Gagol? )who'd been crucified, and these showed clearly that the nails weren't driven thro' the hands, but between the bones of the forearm. The right foot was laid over the left, and one nail driven thro' both.

So all those thousands of images of holed hands are wrong. So, how does one explain the phenomenon of spontaneous stigmata?

Xeno-X, evidently you didn't see the Passion Film -- if you
had I don't think you would writing such material;   however, for the Christian the cross is a most sacred place in our hearts Go to Hezbollah Desecrates My Faith
