A second comment on this entry from me
Jemmie, I took the time to write about this incident in My Journal (accessible through my member profile). I still want to say I agree with you, and that I thought the adults in this teen's life failed him by giving him the message that all he had to do was ask The First National Bank of Mom and Dad for a new cellphone.

If the kid wouldn't blow so much time yakking on the phone,
there'd be more time to get involved with projects.  I hope somebody tells the brat that.

kids these days think they are entitled to everything
I make my kids pay for all treats and toys out of their allowance...  I buy most of thier clothes.  I have a friend who gives thier kids $300.00a month, then collects back room and board, and makes them buy thier own clothes.  Needless to say these kids have a lot less clothes and toys than thier friends and pockets full of money.

Hey thanks for stopping by my blog....

If you would like to add me as a MySpace friend, feel free-or just look up 'Schatz' (clever, I know) and you will see my latest bulletin is about idiotic young people I am frightened to think are the young adults in our country.

Have a great day!

I can't blame you for feeling frustrated with this teen
Unfortunately, his attitude is prevalent even among supposedly mature adults who happen to work in helping professions such as social work. When I spoke to the case manager of the nursing home where I did rehab in May, all she could suggest to help us solve our financial problems was "apply for welfare." No wonder kids feel entitled to handouts. They see "adults" like this actually advising that one must apply for handouts.

Right on the money Jemms

I see kids like that one every day. They don't know the value of money and they don't have a clue that the world isn't going to be handed to them on a plate.

These kids are the next generation of welfare lifers. It's very sad.
