Kinda, sorta, but events such as these occur all the time, but
seemingly with more frequency in the Middle East. Three major religions, traditional internecine tribal hatreds, a good portion of the world's oil supply, alliances and reallignments of governments after colonialism and imperialism, corporate opportunism, all add up to one extremely volatile mix. Then throw in militarism, nationalism, fanaticism, increased technology, and old fashioned power, greed, and corruption and you have some of the major working components in the Middle East and some of the reasons why it is so important to the rest of the world.

saul-relative, you are right, the world cannot afford it but that does not seem to be stopping it from buying into it.
