Both types of plots have their good points, tigerprincess, although I do like to feel that I know the hero and I like being proved right as more facts emerge about the character. Can't you leave the new idea for another book?

I want to know the character
Sometimes though you don't have to give it all away in the beginning. Maybe hint or give flashes of memories, something that sort of leads the reader without giving it all up at once.
