The actual effect...

One more thing...

If you were to take the ozone layer thinning to the absolute minimum that is possible – by that I mean that if you could somehow infuse sufficient CFCs into the upper atmosphere so that every time an ozone molecule formed, it immediately decayed back into elemental oxygen – the effect on the surface increase in ultraviolet radiation would be about the same as moving from New York to Miami.

In other words, if you take the worst-case scenario, and project it to get the worst-case results, there really would be no significant change in anything at all. Again, these are facts. They are not open to discussion or dispute. Any position you choose to take must include these facts, or you are being intellectually dishonest.

No matter how many times you say it...the fact are otherwise

1. Concerning the ozone "hole" – please read my comments below. Understand that I am eminently qualified to say what I am saying. Of course there is an ozone "hole" near the poles – in the polar summer, because that is how physics works. Note that is really is a thinning, NOT a hole. Re-read the excerpt from my book to understand exactly why there is a hole. This is a NATURAL phenomonen – you can relax and stop worrying about it. (The sky isn't falling!)

2. Concerning global warming – I will publish an excerpt from my book on global warming next week. In the meantime, however, read the comments below to gain an understanding of exactly why Al Gore is wrong, why there is no problem, and why you needn't worry about global warming. It is interesting to note that when you examine which scientists are making a big deal of global warming, is is predominantly NOT atmospheric and climate scientists. It is scientists from other disciplines, individuals who have no qualifications beyond their general scientific education, and who probably have not looked at the actual data. Because if they had, and if they truly are scientists, then they would be singing a different tune.

Remember this: you are NOT entitled to your personal set of facts. There is ONLY ONE set of facts, and this set clearly, and without any ambiguity, shows that humans are not having any significant impact on whatever global warming is. Be sure to read next week's excerpt from The Chicken Little Agenda – Debunking Experts' Lies on global warming. I am certain that , if you have an open mind and are intellectually honest, you wqill change your mind.

Mr. Gore's movie's premise
is agreed to by a large number of scientists

and a similar report was given by National Geographic about a year ago.

it is true.

period.

what will you tell your kids and and grandkids when they suffer from the results?  -- that you refused to believe the warnings?  They will hate you for it.

re: An Inconvenient Truth
I was in charge of the NSF (National Science Foundation) atmospheric research at the Geographic South Pole for thirteen months in 1981-1982. I was the individual who first coordinated simultaneous ozone measurements from the ground at the South Pole, and from a Nimbus satellite so that for the first time we were able to make actual instead of relative measurements of the ozone layer. This was when we first established the actual fact that the ozone layer thins at the poles - the so-called hole in the ozone layer. I took many of the measurements that Al Gore relies upon in his film. I am here to tell you that his film is NOT a scientific report on global warming. In fact, it isn't even scientific. Mr. Gore has nearly all his facts wrong, and the few he has right, he doesn't understand, so that he uses them in an incorrect context.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with global warming theory (I use theory in the scientific sense, NOT as laymen use it - please read this linked article to understand completely what I mean by this). Unfortunately, global warming theory is incomplete at this stage. There are actually five operative models, and each predicts fairly well within its particular domain. The problem is, however, that none of these models can handle the complete chain of events that presumably must happen as a consequence of global warming.

In a nutshell, greenhouse gases, mostly CO2 and methane, theoretically increase atmosphere heat holding capacity which causes an increase in atmospheric water vapor (also a greenhouse gas), which increases atmospheric heat holding capacity even more, which causes an eventual "runaway" situation, resulting in a dramatic increase in global atmospheric temperature. This is essentially how all the models work, and what they predict.

There is an additional element, however, and none of them are able to account for this element, because we simply do not know enough yet to modify the models appropriately - we're working on it, but we're not there yet. This element is that, when the atmospheric water vapor level reaches some as yet unknown level, the atmosphere clouds up dramatically, which in turn dramatically increases the planet's albedo (reflectivity of sunlight), which in turn dramatically decreases atmospheric temperature.

The problem is that we have no idea how all of this works together. It could be that the warming overcomes the cooling, so that we eventually have runaway warming. Or it could be that the cooling preempts the warming, so that we experience an ice age instead. Or it could be somewhere in between - perhaps they cancel each other out, and nothing happens at all.

We simply don't know!

The scientists you read about in the media who are commenting so much about all this typically are either fringe, agenda-driven folks who don't really count, or they are not even atmospheric scientists, and really have no basis for their predictions.

When you go back into the record (by examining the amount of CO2 in bubbles of air extracted from ice cores), what you find is that there simply is no long-term historical correlation between atmospheric CO2 and temperature - none at all! And this lends credence to the possibility that the warming and cooling effects cancel each other out. What you do find, however, (from other sources) is that there is a very good correlation between atmospheric temperature and solar variability. You see, our sun actually is a variable star, although its variability is rather slight. Nevertheless, this variability apparently is really what drives historical temperature swings - not the atmospheric greenhouse.

So there you have it in a nutshell. Al Gore simply got it all wrong, because he didn't do his due diligence. Whatever change happens in the coming years, it will likely not be linked to the level of CO2 in the atmosphere, and no matter its source, it will be slow and gradual. Life on Earth will adapt as it always has. No need to panic - no need for Chicken Little!

No offense, but who cares about the ozone layer at this point?

That's so, like, early 90's.

You should go see "An Inconvenient Truth", it might open your eyes to the real danger facing the country.  Well, besides that little Korean dude.

"Woman on the verge."
