What can I say, Timmy, I don't have those answers.

All that I can say is that I have not called on him, as far as I am concerned he has abandoned those that I love and care for. Although there are days that I don't want to get up and do it again, I am the one that makes the choice, I am the one who summons the strength and does it.

I think no such thing. My questions arise from the bitterness that I feel.

I was a firm believer. Then when everyone that I cared about began getting hurt, I began to question why such a loving God would bring such pain on those that follow his path.

TIMMYTALES, it sounds like you're going through something and

wondering if and from where the strength to get through it will come from.  Personally, when I hit the end of my rope (or the skids or whatever you want to call it),  and I gave up, I knew I was done for, all out of air and lost without love, I felt a warm spirit giving me energy, strength, and peace.  I'm not saying I hold onto that 24/7, but it sure helps get through the day.  That's my version and I'm sticking to it.

So, to answer your question, I'm weighing in on the "God" side.

Well, as a recovered alcoholic, I feel it was the Spirit, not my spirit, that got me dry nearly 40 years ago. Nice post my friend.

I think it's probably whoever or whatever you want it to be.
Someone once said, only those who are concerned with souls have them. Others want to believe they have essentially superpowers.

Who cares, as long as whatever you draw strength from gives you the strength you ask for?

Timmy, when I was at death's door, it was God who took my hand and

lead me back.  The memory of his face is embedded in my mind.  I cannot, and do not want to, forget Him.  I know He's real.

Now He's not visible, but He's here, helping me through each day, as though He brought me back and is now responsible for me.

You might think I'm a bit touched, but I tell you that prior to that experience, I never thought about it or acknowledged His presence.

Huh. Good question.
I believe we are gifted in certain ways.  How we use those gifts from God is up to us.  We can succeed or blow it.  No matter how we do, the choices we make, etc, God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us.

Timmy, I think the answer is obvious...did the changes in your life occur
before ...or after you called on HIM? I could never convince another that He is real...or not. I have no concrete proof that He exists... I only know what I know from my own experiences in my own life,in my own body, in my own mind...and in my own spirit. I KNOW that when I have called upon HIM in times of great need, HE is there...sometimes with miracles...always with comfort, strength, and peace. I am a believer. I don't pretend to have all the answers...I don't. In my seeking, I have come full circle. I found nothing that could even begin to compare with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I can't see Him, but I see Him in eveything; I can't hear His voice; but I hear all of nature singng His song, and I hear that same song within myself, I can't touch Him, but I feel His touch upon my heart all the time... I am human, frail, weak...I stumble still...too often. His love is overwhelming, never endng, unconditional...and I can feel it, I instinctively know it...recognize it. I could not walk this path I am on without HIM...

Depends what is your definition of God. Within or without?
If both, the GODSPIRIT can help an opne person reach higher, deeper, further........ God helps those who help themselves, does not mean God WILL NEVER lend a helping hand. That's my two doallrs worth. (3 clciks back)   good questions (I foolishly called myself a functional atheist believing in a hands-off God at some point)

interesting....
I think that God gave us the strength when we were born.  We just have to reach for it.  So, it's really us... but we wouldn't have it in the first place without Him?   Did that make sense?

As far as acknowledgements go, a true believer will thank God for everything. Do you really feel that he (God) does everything?

posted by TIMMYTALES on July 11, 2006 at 6:16 PM | link to this | reply

The first step is the acceptance of the problem and the desire to want
to change.

In my beliefs, you are not seperate from the divine source.
You have the desire, you create the strength you need from within.

I think it is God who gives us the strength to get through the tough times. In my mind anyway!

All good things come from God, including the good will and strength
needed to do what gets done.  Some people acknowledge God for it.  Some don't.

We do our part. God does his part.
Of course we have to be willing to change.

I feel that we use him as a crutch to accomplish something that we could have done (and did) on our own

A combination of both . We are God's creation and we reciprocate on
his command.
