It's tough for those stuck in the mythic stage of spiritual maturity to grasp the concept of "God" not being a person. Some never will get it in this lifetime.

Nobody said it was "bring your own milstone"!!!  Where does one find a milstone anyway?  I think what you are saying about how people recreate God in their own image and end up with nothing but a graven image is right on track.  God as the Universe makes more sense than trying to put him/her/it in a box, or body of some kind.
