Muser, I think I finally understand why my ancestors left NC and moved by covered wagon to TN. I always wondered why they did that. LOL

I confess, TAPS, to being a wreck the first spring we lived there after our
one of our neighbors told us about the baby black snakes that slithered out of the light fixture above their dining room table every spring! After hearing from many of my female neighbors how they get their broom and just guide the blacksnakes out the door, I felt really lucky that our snakes stay up in the loft. Our neighbors have impressed upon us how beneficial black snakes are; they eat mice and insects, and more importantly they chase poisonous snakes away! The mountains of NC are known to be inhabited with timber rattlers and copperheads, two very poisonous snakes, so we feel very lucky to have a few black snakes hanging out...literally.... around our place!

Muser, I cannot even imagine remaining for five minutes in a house with five-foot long snakes in the attic. I would be on my way to somewhere else very quickly.

I so appreciate your reading my post and taking the time to leave your lovely comments. I don't think I have ever responded to all like this rather than to each of you individually...please accept my apologies. I am like cartoon famous Calvin right now ...I am so far behind, I wonder if I will ever catch up!

My mother's friend
had a big snake in her house and so the first night she fled. Then she went home because she figured that a big snake could not rule her life. She hasn't seen it since.

Well call me chicken. I could never goback into the house where the snakes had taken it as theirs. You are a woman full of surprises. Gentle as spring rain and courageous and Godzilla. WOW

hey....:) I'm so happy for you being home again
and I'd much rather mice and snakes than two-inch cockroaches like we have here in the summer....
