I've written 5 novels and half dozen short stories.
Each time I sit down to write something that big, I go thru what you describe. I become absorbed in the story. It's all I think about. It gives off its own peculiar energy that keeps you working no matter how tired or hungry you are.
The process is all-consuming for sure.
