Okay, bel_1965,
I'm pretty sure that my mind may be on a road trip, too, but here goes my two cents.  I found myself agreeing with her, too.  Sure, it's scary, but she had a point.  So, hillbilly, modern-day Ellie-May, or not, she is turning into a poor little rich girl.  Of course, I'm way past seeing the appeal that she, Lindsay Lohan, and other popular iconic images have on our pre-teens and teens, but I think they are adorable.  (Shhhh.  Did I type that out loud?)  Can't help it.  I think they are cutest things.  And like Mademoiselle, I think they get too much of a bad rap from the media.  What would be just regular old, teenage, young girl screw ups get magnified.  It's hard for sensible people not to feel sorry for them.  They are, in my opinion, still just kids, playing grown up, and getting more than their fair share of chewing up and spitting out from the big dogs.  Oh yeah.  Here's hoping for the truth in that saying that God looks out for babies and fools.

Pat
ONe night last year while Carl was in Iraq, I decided to sit down and watch TV.  I turned on the "Simple Life".  The only thing I came out of that with was if either of those girls were my daughters they would have had their mouth washed out with soap.

I don't follow the crap tabloids...
but even I have heard of Brittany.  She'll grow up one of these days - comes with having kids. I also don't understand the fuss about Paris Hilton. Rich girl, showing off, doing nothing for anyone. Boring.  So she washes a car in a leather bustier...   Once.  yuk.

Mademoiselle
It would be easier for me to ignore if I didn't have a preteen daughter LOL!  Unfortunately, these are the icons of young girls, so I spend alot of time battling some of the images they set forth.

The media does seem to "have it in for her" all of a sudden ...

They appear intent on portraying her as some sort of hillbilly, due to her low class upbringing and lack of intellect.  (Same applies to Lindsay Lohan.)  But, by engaging in such petty Brittney-bashing, what they are actually doing is turning her into something of a martyr.

I wish the media would just ignore her, instead ... as I try to do.

Hang my head
Drown my fear
Till you all just
Disappear

I don't really know the history
But she is certainly not hurting for money LOL!  On this one subject I simply can't be critical, we all have moments as parents that something happens so fast and unexpected that it terrifies us.  Generally we are more shaken than the child.
