Saul, you're a saint. Thank you for the donation.

That's the interesting part about my current reading.  What is called mental illness changes with time and location.  I had never really thought of it before.  It makes perfect sense.  I just had never given it any thought.

And yes, try telling people today that you born of a virgin.

Here's a click for your collection plate, preacher. Nothing like
perspective.  If someone today claimed to be born of a virgin and the son of god, we'd think he was crazy.  Two thousand years ago a Jewish zealot said both these things and gained a following.

Sannhet, I agree and I would never vote for normal either
I just want to pick some form of acceptable craziness so that I don't get put in a hospital.  There are a lot of not normal people out there and they're okay as long as they don't cross the line.  It's that line that has me interested in today's blog.

successwarrior- I took Pschology 101 in college but that is as far as I
went as far as formal training went.  As far as everyday life goes, it seems to me that the smartest people are those who can think both objectively and subjectively. I spent a lot of years working in civil engineering.  Doing design, construction staking, and project inspection for roads and bridges.
The people who are totally objective thinkers are great at using mathematical formulas and engineering theory in regard to solving problems. They are in a world of hurt when it comes to solving problems which can not be solved with a known formula.
Totally subjective thinkers seem to have a philosophical answer for every problem, but they never learn how to do the math.
I was reading some stuff about Napoleon this morning.  I know, some think that he was nuts. He was a very complex individual, however, and made some interesting observations in regard to religious issues.  He said that "religion is the only thing that keeps the poor from killing the rich". He acknowledged that religion had a lot to do with keeping the masses in poverty.
He also said "I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between him and every other person in the world there is no other possible term of comparison.  Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius?  Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of people would die for Him".
He also said, "there are only two forces in the world, the sword and the spirit. In the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit".
Napoleon Bonaparte promoted religious freedom and equality when he became an adminstrator. At the same time, he was a dictator and has never been considered a candidate for saint hood.
It seems to me, though, that his quotations reveal that he was used both objectivity and subjectivity in regard to his attitudes toward Christianity.
I know. I did too much rambling. But you asked for it!  Pay the preacher. Right?

Justi, I'm sure that everyone has said that about every religion
that has ever existed.  No one worshipping any of the gods could foresee the downfall of those gods.  Religions seem to me to be just like your psyche degree.  They serve their purpose in the present.  And that is good enough since our time here is short.

Success Warrior
Fifty years after you  finish all these classes in psychology and sociology you will find how totally obsolete they are. I have a fifty three year old degree(Psychology) in its beautiful folded leather cover, gathering mold and dust which represents almost nothing now. All is good as long as it is happening. Redwood has a good comment for your page. I am not the Pope, I talk to God daily, He answers me. Begining with the Jews this Religion  (Christianity) is by far the longest running show in town. It will be here as long as man is.

That's the part that's up for debate, isn't it?

If Christians were allowed to choose all the mental illnesses than just not believing what they believe would be crazy.  And that's the bottom line, the majority chooses what's normal and what's not.  What's left to look at is the agenda behind any movement to classify something as a mental illness.

Gullible sheep.  Lambs are young enough that they can still be taught but it's hard to teach an old sheep new tricks.

successwarrior- could it be possible-
that being obsessed with the desire to expose all Christians as a pack of fools is a form of insanity? If so, there is a lot of it going around.
The film industry has decided to issue the same warning for movies which may contain Christian content as for anything else which may be considered objectionable. I guess that the good folks in Hollywood want to protect the next generation from becoming a bunch a gullible "lambs".
