lovelyone, very true...

It is the first straw the each new AA grasps at, but it is false.  I can change my job!  Change wives!  Or change my wife's attitude!  Change towns or states!  I can buy all new clothes, cars, and appliances!

Then we discover, slowly, that what we have to change is within us.

Thanks for the comment.  Very thoughtful.

This is wonderful advice. The only thing is ... it is next to impossible to "know the difference". And as the bard says, "therein lies the rub."

Just what can you change? And what can't you?

Fifty years ago, people would never have believed that equal rights would be available to all. And if you were Martin Luther King, you would have been told that that is something you couldn't change.

The same with Galileo and his preposterous notion that the universe did not revolve around the earth. He couldn't possibly get people to buy that. It couldn't possibly be true. But, he did. And it was.

On the other hand, how many times have you personally tried to change something, only to find that you were stalemated and your hands were tied?

In the end, we all exist at the mercy and pleasure of fate. We can try to be as wise as possible, but life is much too unpredictable to be known entirely.

bel_1965, the more I practice at it, the better I get.
It's so nice to feel at ease once in a while!

Whacky, the hard part for me is letting go of the trying to change the worl
d.  You know?  Trying to change events through sheer will?  Cannot be done.  Better off to accept the reality.  It's God's place, not mine.

I have a hard time with accepting the things I can't change
but I am getting better with it.

Too often I think it is something I can change and it's not!

That's when serenity really helps!
