I was going to do some volunteer work with a local VA hospital while Carl was in Iraq.  I had my orientation scheduled and everything...when I told Carl what I was doing he had a FIT!  He insisted that I do anything, anywhere but there.  I couldn't understand and I explained, I know I will see alot of seriously injured soldiers, etc... but I can handle it.  He would not let up on this one and told me it wasn't about the patients that I couldn't handle but the situation in those hospitals that would literally put me over the edge.

It's a damn shame that our Vet's come home to more hell when they have been hurt.

My brother in law is now a practicing cardiologist. He underwent some time while in his residency at a veteran's hospital. He told me that he had never seen so much suffering and death in his entire life.

something has to change.  This would not be tolerated in any other hospital in the country, but the stuff that goes on in many VA hospitals is overlooked too often.

Taps
I made a call to the armory today, they are supposed to call me before the end of the week with better info.  As soon as I know, you will.  BUT either way, if you know of anyone have them call the VA and ask.

Bel, is there a time frame for these biopsies?

There are some that are not so bad... or at least not when compared to

others. Bay Pines here in Florida is one of the nation's best, but then, they don't employ military personel. I think that does make a little difference. Not much, but a little. I would have to agree that the majority of VA medical centers need to be shut down, or restaffed.

from what I have seen, most VA Hospitals should be closed down.  It's a shame that both the personnel and the patients are treated so poorly.

And to make matters worse, most of the medical staff are over worked

over tired, and underpaid, just like their Active Duty counterparts. Military Medicine is bad for the health, something I've known for a long time now.

Oh damn! I hope there won't be any life-threatening consequences...

No Rumored It Is Not
Luckily Carl has no concerns here, but there are many out there that will.  This is just insane!

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE BEEN TREATED AT A VET'S HOSPITAL

your health is at risk, you don't have to click on my blog, jsut read the following.  This is from veteransadvantage.com

06/13/2006

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has just confirmed that more than 22,000 veterans who underwent biopsies at Veterans' hospitals across the country may have been exposed to deadly viruses from improperly sterilized equipment.

The VA is offering free blood tests as a precaution. The biopsy equipment includes a probe that, if improperly cleaned, could retain traces of body fluids containing the viruses that cause hepatitis or AIDS.
