Sometimes, clusters of similar peoples (of any color) instigate trouble just because they feel they have power in groups.

LeRoy, yes they are illegal if they are banned by treaty or by gov. decree.
And if the congress could pass an immigration reform bill that met today's realities, then our millions here would no longer be illegal. Just a pen stroke to freedom. Thanks for commenting!

the term "illegal immigrant"
I guess my question is do you consider the Jewish settlers on the West Bank as illegal? It seems like a lot of other people on the left would like them to disappear. They work hard and have made the economy grow for everyone there and have made the desert bloom but are still the target of real hardcore violence. Are all migrants created equal?

fwmystic, thank you for you attention to this vital issue.
I was reading yesterday about how the Phillipine government sponsors a worker exchange program for nurses. Nurses make 200% more in england than they do at home. So for two years at a time they commute and send money home to support their families. For every dollar sent home, four more are generated. That equals ten percent of the Phillipine economy.
We need a documented worker program of some kind so we can begin collecting part of the billions that are being sent back to Mexico. These third world nations know what what is. I'm not sure we do!

Kingmi - I don't cry easily, but this post made me ...
weepy-eyed.
How often do demogogues demonize those who are different, as if making them sub-human makes it easier to hate a race or class of people. We are talkling about people, humans, men, women and children who have hopes and fears and dreams. The immigration issue is complex, and as Bush himself says, rounding up all Latins and sending them all back "ain't gonna work."

AaronB, IMO immigration is not the issue. The congress is the issue!

The point I've heard many people make
is that there's no pressure on Mexico to fix itself because it gets bailed out by people sending money from the US.
The immigration issue would be solved if Mexico could develop a functional economy, but their leaders aren't exactly moving in that direction very fast.
