Naut...

Again, this is a fascinating and exciting topic that I'm quite sure many people overlook.  As a matter of fact, I bet if several bloggers here read this they'd tell you they never thought of PC'ness being a dangerous, elusive, evading monster let alone considered what being PC really means.

I have a plethera of thoughts running though my head as PC relates to:

The Bible
The Consitution and "...all men are created equal..."
Slavery
Illegal Immigration
Women's Rights
...to name a few.

I want to think on your words a little bit more and get back to you or maybe come up with a post to thoroughly express my thoughts.

Ariel,
I still have nice memories of Britain. Not London so much, but we were sailing out of Lymington, and out of Barmouth, up in Wales, and had a great time! And I do want to go back! At some point I would like to take one of those great hiking tours they've got there, and the Blair Thing be damned...

Jane,
Thanks for the compliment. I wish I were immune to flattery, but I'm not...

Nautikos -- loved this!! Such a witty and erudite parsing of
PC grammar!

I'm afraid that they're putting up  with a lot worse than that! I

We left there alomost six years agoe because we couldn't stand it any more ; and it's a hell of a lot worse now.

The Blair Thing and his lunatics have taken over the asylum. Lady Ariela goes back now and again, but I have no intention of ever setting foot in that dump again!

Ariel,
What the hell is happening in Britain that people allow this???

I am, of course, unfamiliar with the laws covering the use of the Union Jack and the other flags in the UK. But that the flying of the flag should be prohibited because it is 'racist' leaves me speechless! Are Britons putting up with that???

No new law was necessary ( but of course The Blair Thing has to make one ) for technically the flying of the Union Flag has been forbidden to private citizens, on private building, for I don't know how long, but a very long time.

Private British citizens are only permitted to fly the English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish flags, or the Red Ensign on their boats.

This in no way mitigates the total lunacy of the situation. And The Blair Thing's "government"

One thing I hate is political correctness. In the UK it's gone completely out of hand. They wanted to ban romantic paintings in registry offices because it would offend gay couples, they wanted to change Before Chist to Before Time because it would offend other religions. But the whopper I heard today was that there was a new law brought out that disallowed England flags being raised, in England (!?), because it's racist! How is it racist to fly your own flag in your own country?! The reason they're flown in the first place is to show support for their country in the World Cup. We live in a barmy world...

Ariel,

Thanks for your comments. I concur regarding the Marxist contribution to the PC frame of mind. I did, in fact, briefly allude to it in my first post on PC, and it's an influence that is definitely worth exploring. One problem is that it might end up being too damn 'academic', I'm afraid. People are not exactly enthralled by any of this as it is, ! But I'll probably do a bit of it.

And I also agree with what you're saying about my paragraphs, or the lack thereof, the result of another bad academic habit.  But I'll try and remedy that,  I promise!

MandaLee,
You're absolutely right! I wish more people would understand that. I intend to write more on this subject. And thanks for dropping in!

Nautikos again

One small point : your blog would be much easier to read if slpit into paragraphs.

Thank you for your comment on my story.

PC is an arogant assumption of perfection, in that its proponents know better than every one else. The very term is an insult!

It is a vile form of slavery --worse in its way than physical slavery -- in that it seeks to enslave men's minds.

You stress the role of femininsm in PC, but neglect to mention the equally powerful role of all those wet leftie university profs, et al, who were apologists for the worst forms of communism for many years.

With the demise of communism, they had to find a new role, and a new set of victims -- us. What is wrong with us that we tolerate this iniquitous insanity? Are we cattle, to be led by the nose wherever these lunatics take us.

You will notice that I refer to " men's minds" and PC can get stuffed, as far as I'm concerned

Nautikos,
PC is doing seen and unseen damage to our society, morals and culture.

Rumored,
thanks for popping in. As for this Ms/Mrs/Miss business - I must confess that have capitulated when it comes to writing a letter. But when it comes to face-to-face encounters, if she should object to 'Miss', I have a response ready: "Oh, I'm so sorry! Did I say Ms? I didn't know it was Mrs...!" So far I have never had the chance to use it, though...

Wiley,
thanks for dropping in and the compliments. As far as your English is concerned, you put many a university grad to shame! And anyone who likes Pepys' Diary can't be all  bad anyway...

wowie, I am impressed, more educated and very much conversant with all that you have written here.

I started really wrestling with the language since I got a computer and taught myself to use it just 6 years ago.

In some ways it has changed me culturally, because I switched from labour to labor for no other reason than spell check was annoying as hell.

I read and love everything written from Pepy's Diary to the Bible by times, (Nova Scotian language here~ (by times rather than at times).

I had only an 8th grade education up until I was 55, but my parents real gift to me and all my siblings was the abilty and love of the English language.

As a mechanic/entrepreneur on printing equipment most of my life, it is a great pride I have in my two oldest daughters who have degress up to Masters, in English. I guess I did something right.

This was a joy to read, and I shall eat up anything else you have to say about the language or anything else mon ami.
