I had no idea,

that squids sport a backbone.   Not that I ever gave it any thought, but I would have assumed they were... spineless!

Your Right
My kids didn't come with a warning either. Now that would have been helpful. Good post.

Just do what we do down here in DIxie -- deep fry it.
This works for everything from chicken to twinkies.

The solution is never eat anything's
tentacles (or anything that sounds similar to that either!)

I'm never eating squid again!
Now that you have revealed this to us all, I'm not touching that stuff any more.

LOL at Talion and the visual of the octopus tentacles dangling
It's a wonder Queen V goes anywhere with you!  You are so bad!

Medusa, sadly life doesn't come with warning labels,

Just think if it did though how much fun we'd have missed out on along the way, never trying the adventurous path, never discovering the people who we might have dismissed and misjudged as being simply people, complex conundrums and paradoxes as most are.

As for the calamari, yum, it's one of my favorites!  That and most seafood.  I love sushi!

I didn't know squid have backbones. I should've because it's jellyfish and not squid we refer to as being "spineless." I think some things are best left to the trained professionals in restaurants. I love calamari, but I don't expect Queen V to whip up a batch herself.

There's a dish at the Chinese buffet we frequent with small whole octopus. I like it, but rarely get it. It freaks Queen V out to see me eat it. The time I munched an octopus slowly, letting the multiple legs dangle from my lips ruined it for her.

Survival of the fittest
comes to mind. Humans used to stumble around, stepping on spiny things, biting on poisonous fruit, getting swooped up by Dino...  Then came education, survivors warning the young ones how to get through the forest, and finally someone learned how to write. Then we learned to read -- to watch TV. But if we had to make it for a few days out there in the woods... look out.

They're my weakspot. I love calamari, rings dipped and quick fried or stuffed, ripieni. No better delicacy to my mind. As for the backbone, just reach in and pull it out. You must be of Mediterranean extraction or you wouldn't even try it!

if they're cooked right, they shouldn't taste rubbery at all.

but I've never cooked them and had no clue they had a backbone?  LOL  I did know that about shrimp though.... you have to cut out that black line... I guess it's the same concept?

What would happen if you ate it?   Reminds me of the green stuff inside lobster... yuck.
