- Go to God is Not Learned, He's Revealed
Darrke Thoughts, Delighted to be asked, and to offer some encouragement. When I discovered that it was depression that gave me trouble as far back as high school, a few years ago and I'm now 44, I was glad to finally understand and find help. True, when I let God in my life, it was as I described. I was even able to quit smoking cigarettes, which was already a long time heavy habit...in a little time. I was 19 then, and since then I have been down alot of roads and do relate to the struggles people have, even as a Christian. My heart has never changed, God is very real to me, I do feel his presence in my heart at all times since then, I have seen his hand in my life so much along the way. Still like anyone, the trials and pressures and temptations of life come, and I carried depression with me for a bigger part of my life. I knew what it was to be high on various things, but yes, there was a replacement. The word of God is just a word until you have his Spirit in your heart, which doesn't come just because you go to church....but when you truly accept him in your heart. Then his word becomes Alive! It inspires you like never before, sort of speaks to you as if mom or someone was giving you some great inspired words with Love. You can actually feel a presence with you and I described it to someone once when I was young as like a blanket around me...and was told then that the Holy Spirit is called the Great Comforter. That was cool. But I have had seasons where I didn't walk so close to God, and that can be whether your in church or not, but could be a variety of things with your daughter, but primarily....is she on medication? I was led I believe to an awesome psychiatrist...PHD...not mental health or a regular Doc...and I can explain more about this. He worked with me to explain depression, the signs and symptoms, so I'd be aware, and worked on different meds he gave me until I was on 3 meds that still do the trick for me today. I see alot of people who I don't think get the best treatment or any treatment at all. You can't really talk yourself out of depression or do things that will hide it...it's a chemical imbalance and the right meds will balance your brain chemicals. Wow did that change my thinking, feelings, life! No, I didn't struggle with this when I first got saved....I tell you, the presence of God in you can do magnificent things! My feeling is that He Did deliver me....and gave me an awesome Doctor to do it through.
If she is on meds and still having trouble, apparently she needs further therapy and med adjustments. Depression can cause a variety of problems, and if there are a variety they may possibly all be linked to chemical imbalances.....Depression....and the right meds can do miracles. I'd love to hear back from you in more clarity....I have a huge heart for people with depression, kids, and would like to know how it goes. If you prefer my home email.....kimlynnsemail@yahoo.com
A word for your girl......There is nothing to difficult for God, and that includes the heart and mind of a young girl. If you are not bubbling over with happiness for life, know that God does answer, and often through people, and sometimes he will send you a stranger from miles away, who he knows will be his hand extended to you. I needed this kind of hand desperately at different times in life, didn't always find it in a person, but God has always been there, the thing is I said then and there, that I would be there....for people who find themselves in that same place, in silent desperation with no help to be found...so reach out if you need a hand, God loves you, and when no one else knows what's going on, he does. I didn't quit smoking pot; the entire desire was just gone.
This is the most interesting statement to me. I'd like to know more about how/why/what desire is there instead? Many christians I've known have not been so lucky and are still stuck in some addiction or another in addition to, or in spite of their faith. My daughter, especially, right now is so into church, and claims to be into God, but if not at church seems to struggle with some major issues like depression constantly. What makes the difference?

Nice to hear from you all
Thanks for the comments....and it's fascinating to read from all of you. Everyone has things to give, you agree? And you never know when something you say from your heart will be a building block or encouragement to someone else, and that's the intention always...to build up or add to people by what's been given to us.

True observation!
I experienced that God was real and lived in me a similar way after I cried out from a desperate place.....and O that peace that downloaded.....did pass my understanding! True, He is revealed and not learned about. Bless you! You have His story to share by His choice!

Kimlynn,
It's interesting the way you describe "the unrest" that came over you. I had a similar experience. That is, similar in feeling or quality, but very different in circumstances. It is very interesting that such things are revealed to people of so many different backgrounds, cultures, or races. God really does work in mysterious ways. Thank you for your comment on my blog and welcome to Blogit.
