WB I would agree.
Sometimes I wonder whose side the people in gov are on.  They certainly don't seem to be "for the people."

How insane!
If this bill becomes law, then we are opening ourselves to even more illegal activity! I think they missed the memo where they are supposed to be helping law abiding citizens, not the lawless!!!!

Nautikos -- thanks for the invite!
I have quite a lot of family primarily in ON.  It's a beautiful province!

Jane,
the whole thing is an unmitigated disaster, and it will only get worse! By the way, we would love to have you in Canada as a legal immigrant, instead of the illegal ones, of whom we have between 750000 and 1.2 million, according to the latest estimates, and depending on who does the estimating. And keep in mind, that our population is only about 11% of yours, about 32 million...

thanks for stopping by and adding your two cents.  I see I need to go check out your blog, since this is a name with which I am not familiar!

Justi, my dear, I hope you have a wonderful Memorial day.

I look forward to attending the local parade and remembering the sacrifice that so many thousands paid for me to live in freedom.  Freedom most surely is never free, and we have so much to be thankful for!

Burly, you can tell which division of Congress represents the people --

it's the HOUSE, not the Senate.  It's the members of the House that have been listening to folk and paying attention to the common sense of the people.  I've been faxing and calling as well and will continue to do so -- and pray that something looking more like the House version of the bill will pass into law rather than anything the Senate coughed up.

Thanks for stopping by!

Way to Think Down the Line
Some of the negative ramifications of the Senate bill become clear through reading your forward-thinking words.  Of course the real question is why Latin Americans are coming here in the first place.  What can the most influential country in the world do about all the global economic and human rights inequalities?  If that isn't addressed more fully, it won't matter what the Senate does or how much they fortify the border.

Thanks for the thoughtful essay!    --Shawn, "Tall and Skinny Politico"

You are so right. We have lost it. Truly lost our sense of justice, reality, honesty any of those things we stood for because we made illegal legal and duh! Sad.... Have a great day. I would invite you to Alabama, but they got here first.

That's what most clear thinking Americans are for, secure borders first, then deal with the illegals.. but they must be dealt with, not given amnesty! Rep. Sensenbrenner, who leads the House conferees vows, "no amnesty!" I'm with him and I'll take up placard and go to the streets if that's what it takes to let the Senate know that they're on the wrong side of this issue!

ariel70, inner Mongolia would be beautiful!
I fear I'd be lacking for a toilet and other necessities I consider vital to existence.  As well, it would be quite cold.  But it would be peaceful and I would venture to guess there would be a lot fewer people!!!

Mademoiselle, I sadly think the good Senator from PA (??)
is correct, and I would concur.

According to an email from Senator Santorum:

"I came to the immigration reform debate honestly seeking a legitimate solution to this divisive issue; however, if one were to imagine the worst possible way to reform our immigration system, it would probably look a lot like the immigration bill the U.S. Senate has passed."

So, there you go.

"Happy first official weekend of Summer!"
