It could well be stress & tension...
I found something that helps dry skin/lips & fever blisters, although it's not advertised for that purpose. It's Estee Lauder's LipZone antifeathering complex. It's silicone and heals up those microscopic little cracks in the skin that let virus attack. Another thing -- drink plenty of water. If you're feeling a bit feverish and your lips are dry, you're probably a bit dehydrated.
As for the allergy idea -- my daughter-in-law's a high school teacher -- she develops hives shortly before school starts each fall. Coincidence? :)
