The cake, the icing, the custard base, your Mom's love that went into it, I think you captured it all succinctly. I am now drooling for chocolate, it sounds like a German Chocolate cake only way better.

We used to get chcolate cream cake with choclate icing and coconut
A very simle cake compared to yours. The Mocha icing and the custard sound divine.

So who would not come all the way to NY just to share it with you? All Blogit would share in that wonderful and luscious cake. I simply feel as if I can taste it. Wow! Too bad the family does not like it...... Invite all your girlfriends and bake one. The family will learn to love it.
