Simple cult of personality mythos, Xeno-x. Throw in a
strengthening church infrastructure in the 3rd century, plus the legitimatization by Constantine, the deification of Jesus became reality.  Son of god, born of virgin, borrowed mythological model.  Two hundred years from now, Elvis and Tupac will be the icons of their own religions.  Bet me.  (Of course, how we'll find out and collect on the bet we'll leave to Pat Robertson, Jeanne Dixon, and Jonathan Edwards.)

whitejedi -- about jesus
there is no written historical evidence that he existed.
although Josephus did mention h8im.

but -- if you read the gospels and take away the mythical "son of god", divine image, you can see a definite personality there.

what we have tody is obviously based on  mythology.

seems the human mind has to function on a mythos outside of itself.

those mythical beings are always better, more powerful, etc. than we ever can be.

and the artifacts are great to center belief around -- problem is, they pull people away from true belief.

Right on.  It would be nice if Christians would consider the bible in the same vain as Arthurian legends-stories that reflected moral beliefs and values.  Whether or not Jesus was devine is beside the point.  Nobody's proven he even existed at all.

Sorry, but your wrong, old chap. There is indeed a Holy Grail, and it rests in the museum of Mon Blogue. Our excellent Curator, Dr Allerjhee, keeps a particularly venomous species of piranha in it. It may be viewed by appointment only, price €5, reductions for pensioners, students and schoolchildren.

Do drop in some time, and we'll have a noggin or two.
