Thanks All For the Words of Wisdom
I truly appreciate the additional thoughts in this area.  Yours were insightful.  I am sorry I have not been able to work on line daily.  I have been highly involved in work that requires maximum output (middle school students) and other!  In a couple weeks I will have more time for writing.  Again thanks!  I have taken notes on these!

Hi, Sophistie,
Good post.  And I agree with your thoughts about how to build the strength of one's character.  Thanks.  :)

Good post
Strength of character is also developed by existing through these types of situations.( beleive me I've done lots of it) We spend so much of our time at work. Why can't people realise that by being a good and collaborative person they will not only do better themselves but they will make others lives better too and they might actually enjoy themselves.

Sophistie,
I have always enjoyed doing the work. No matter what gets done or how it gets done, there will always be those who want to be in control...Your post brings up some valid points. Thank you for sharing.

sophistie, in a group home, it has to be teamwork or it doesnt work....
we have to leave our egos at the door..if someone starts gagging on their supper and I happen to the closest worker, guess who gets thrown up on?  Its all part of the job...not always pleasant..definitely not a place for ego tripping

Sophistie
I believe people who have to be at the helm, or on the podium, or number one at awards night are very frightened people. They are to be encouraged anytime you see any normal behavior out of them. They are so afraid someone will find out they are just like you and me. They fear they will not be thought of as the most beautiful, smartest, richest and any other very sought after title. Just my thoughts, I don't know if that is part of it or not, but they can be a real drag. Be blessed, good post.

Sophistie....Very good points here....That darn ego...that's what does it..
I agree, even with the simplest task a team can bludner the thing because personalities can erupt over who's doing this or that....Learning to work with different egos is not easy....

Right You Are!
Excellent points. I often let my wife run things, simply because she enjoys doing it. I'm good at certain things as well.

Is it simply a choice between these two binaries?

long term or short term?
Anybody can get things done for an hour or two.  The person who is most effective at getting things done on a short term basis may very well be someone who drives everybody nuts over the long haul.

There's an old Russian proverb (which I never really understood, actually) regarding "being a team player":

"Tis better to be the least among giants, than the king among dwarves."

I Agree and They Do...
Why is the key!!! It seems so simple to just do what needs to be done without needing credit and glory!

it shouldn't matter, but at times, egos get in the way.
