Oh Justi, I will definitely try that....
Right now I am beading nude (getting product made for the event this weekend) under a fan going full blast with the AC up. I hope this does not get any worse

Mike's Goddess
Take 1/2 gallon of cidar vinigar put it into a crock or some sort of glass container, add 4 cups of dry alfalfa, 4 cups of lavender flowers and 1 cup fo either sage leaves or ground sage. Allow this to set for a week, press these herbs down daily. Drain the vinegar into another container and pour equel parts of Witch Hazel with it. Add 20 drops of pure peppermint oil. Put that in a spritzer use it immediately after a shower and on the back of the neck as soon as you feel the onset of one. Spritz before going to bed they will decrease drastically. This is a commercial natural product I developed in a line I did years ago. Please tell me if you are having success with it.

Thank you all...
for your help. I think the hot flashes and mood swings bother me worse than the rest of the symptoms and I had heard that the HRT had been linked to breast cancer and I definitely want to keep those right where they are. I have one of those little fans and will be bringing it and a small spritz bottle of water to my D&D game tonight. Keep your fingers crossed that I can stay cool and the guys in the group don't stare at me like I am crazy. At least Tom will know what it is. He came in a little while ago and thanks you guys for the advice as well. He hates to see me suffer.

Bummer. My grandmother claimed to have
no symptoms, just poof all done and early to boot. My Mom on the other hand has been briefing me for several years  Then again, this pretty much parallels their approaches to all illnesses...

My mother also had a hysterectomy before menopause could begin.

I guess I've been through it with just a few residual hormones still being spun out by my body.  I didn't have many symptoms.  I am typically so warm, who would know if it was a flash?  I found PMS (with its unexpected rage) to be much worse than menopause.  I still regularly take Oil of Evening Primrose capsules (available over the counter).  They helped with both PMS and menopause.  I think my last period was in September of 1998, but I still get a little hormonal occasionally and feel like a period is coming on.  Usually, that's because I neglected to take the Primrose for a few days.   Every  year at my annual physical, my doctor tells that because of the hormones, technically, I could still get pregnant.   I'm in my 60s with 3.75 grandchildren!  It seems like a bad joke.

I know women who carry little battery-operated fans, and they say it really helps.  Maybe something like meditation or relaxation practice could help a little.  When I feel a fibromyalgia spell coming on, the only thing that usually helps is lying down for a bit, but if I can't do that, I've found getting somewhere alone and working on relaxation with deep breathing can help, too.

Oh, and by the way, my mother is a breast cancer survivor, and she was told to take no hormones at all, so I will not use hormone therapy.

Good luck, Goddess.  I hope it's way shorter than 10 years.

Keep a spritzer of ice water handy! Hot flashes are a tough thing to handle.

Power surges....LOL
Unfortunately I am going through this natural as I cannot afford a doctor without my SSI benefits. My mom did not go through menopause because she had a hysterectomy before it even started (she was 36) so I have no clue. My gramma said that hers never really started, per se. Her periods just stopped and she was grouchy. Talk about the luck, eh? I doubt I am going to be that lucky. Right now I am in the eighth circle of hell I am so hot and this is the second one today.

Mike's Goddess.....

One more thing, we usually go through menopause the same way our mother experienced it, if that helps.  Some of my friends have been going through it for ten years already and still no end in sight! I am a nutritionist so if you need any advice on natural menopause, let me know!

Mikes Goddess.......

Yup, that's what I heard that it can last for ten years or more.......it seem like forever for me.  Here is another menopause story for you......I was in a meeting with my boss when I first started getting hot flashes.  He was speaking to me close up when all of a sudden I got a hot flash and fogged up  my eyeglasses .  He had this strange look on his face...so I just said, oops...power surge!  LOL Are you going through this naturally or with HRT? I really loved this post!
