...we were wrong to go in. We were wrong to try to impose our way of doing things on a country that values their way of doing things. We were wrong to go in without a plan, and now we're stuck. We've created more of a terrorist training ground than pre-war Iraq ever was. Hell, now they have real Western people to target!
I was never a fan of Saddam, as you well know. But we're now done pretty much everything we accused him of doing, albeit on a smaller scale, so the moral high gound we once tried to occupy is now well and truly polluted.
Thanks for the poem, though.

Oh, the sadness we have wrought on an already benighted land, Damon.
And there seems to be no end to it. American troops dying daily, Iraqis by the dozens, sometimes hundreds dying daily. And all over a War on Terror that can be best fought surgically, with near precise punitive action (the Israelis do it all the time). Operation Iraqi Freedom is a bust and the Iraqis will either continue their experiment with democracy or they will not. So many targets in a multi-faceted war...

You've convinced me. I think its time we restored Saddam to power and hi-tailed it out of there. Let Al Quaeda have it! Let them train their homicide bombers. Let them blow us all to smithereens! They'll all find 72 virgins waiting for them in heaven anyway! Women shouldn't be voting or driving cars anyway and they should keep their heads and faces covered at all times! Saddam will fix things. Of course, he'll have to kill a million Shiites and restore the Sunnis and Baathists to power but what has to be done, has to be done! Thomas Gray said it well:
To each his suffering; all are men,
Condemn's alike to groan,
The tender for another's pain,
The unfeeling for his own.
Yet, ah! why should they know their fate,
since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies?
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more;--where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise. ----------
Tis folly, tis certainly folly!!
