yeah...
I agree with the previous comment... the 50's were just as bad as things are now, but things weren't talked about so openly back then. On that note there is just as much good as there is bad, you just have to be looking for it. I enjoyed your post, and I think it is wonderful that you are making an effort to live a better life.

A lot of it as cover up in the '50's. Happy families on the outside, abusive alcholoics on the inside. It's a nice illusion though...and kudos to you for making it happen in your own part of the world.

1950s
The 1950s are gone, the good with the bad. I'm 34 and a woman and I'm glad I wasn't 34 in 1950. Times kinda sucked for women back then, especially poor women, minority women, uneducated women. Nowadays, our world may be more dangerous and TV may be only for the brave but I prefer the opportunities and technology that we have now.
But yeah, the manners and lower crime reporting was a kinder way to live

Good Points
I am afraid that things always seem better in the rear view mirror, as a child of the fifties I still remember duck and cover drills at school...... Yet we are each able to some extend create our own universes, good luck with yours.
