Whimsy, I already read it -- just did not have time to comment.

Will do so later today.

Thanks for your comment!

Thank you, Jane...
For adding to the points I have been making in my blog.  I guess mine tends to be a bit strong because I feel so strongly about it but I am getting some good reactions.  You should check out my idea to help keep our reps from making illegals legal in a recent post.

DarrkeThoughts -- what are friends for, eh?

But to lie for you?

Not my choice of friendship, but I see your point.

DM it's obvious. Hardship here is a goldmine there.

Absolutely not...
when I was pregnant and on food stamps/medical card I had to prove any income of lack of income.  Sort of like all the "proofs" for this job.  (I've decided the real test is do you have friends who are willing to lie for you...)

And Word Of The Loophole...

spreads back to the old country, which causes more and more to seek the same benefits! When faced with the choice of hardship in Central America and government assisted hardship in the US which would  you choose?

From very biased sources, Xenox. But why should I expect otherwise?

Here are some more facts, from a different perspective:

Kingmi, point well taken.

It will be much easier to begin taxing the current illegal population and prevent further illegal immigration than it will to ship them all back from whence they came.

With regards to your desire for another 11 million plus Hispanics to help balance out Caucasians (or whatever reason it was you gave) -- I don't think this needs to happen with further immigration.  Rather, it would seem that Hispanics have no trouble significantly multiplying their numbers by natural means via procreation.  I'm sure there's some statistic that will demonstrate the accuracy of this.

JanesO, You are all responding to the obviouso
California had this problem, did away with the welfare, and have been a democrat state ever since.

The thing to do is to make all the newcomers legitimate, get them paying taxes and contributing.

And so do I. Thank you.

Xenox, that tidbit of info came from a national produce assoc

CEO, who observed that immigrants, whether legal or illegal, make $8-9/hour.  He also mentioned that they require social security numbers from all of their employees; however, they are not allowed to verify accuracy.  They have been sued for racism in the past when they attempted to verify citizenship.  So these people making $8-9/hour may or may not be illegals.  This particular company mentioned that they oversee up to 50% of all produce grown in the USA.  Oh yeah, and by the way, for all the ACCURATE social security numbers provided to this company (by the LEGAL citizens), they do withdraw FICA, taxes and all other deductions.

You know, your condecension is not becoming to you.

Sigh.

I just love it when an unhinged radical lib plunges nose first into making a total fool of himself.

Lilane, I agree. Makes absolutely no sense.
You'd think they would increase the fines as a protective measure.

immigrants
I heard the companies that hire illegals fines have been lowered since 911 and so they don't worry about getting caught, doesn't make sense to me

that $10/hr plus that you speak of
is a 10-20% increase.

no matter what sales you visit, the 10 - 20% will be there.

I sitll contend that it will be much more than that.

where do you get your information
and did you factor in FICA, unemployment, health insurance, other expenses such as building adequate housing and comploying with U.S. labor laws.

I guess I'll have to look up the realyy wage figures and show them to you

sigh.

Xenox, keep in mind that the growers are already paying
illegal aliens $8-9/hour, tax free.  Even if they increase that to $10 and take taxes out, I doubt it will make a huge dent in what I pay for produce.  And as usual, I will shop sales and during the summer, shop at the farmer's market.

trhe issue is more complicated than you make it
the "sensible" immigrants have a point tobe sure.  no doubt

they understand that the illegals are being exploited by ruthless employers where the advantage is that the illegals cannot speak out against their exploitation for fear of being deported.

I'll ask you, like I asked opinionmaster and Burly

are you willing to pay the increased cost for produce as a result of the increased costs the growers will incur as a result of hiring U.S. citizens?

there is the test of your true patriotism
