I used to breed Bettas....

I had one lovely male that lived for six years. The females didn't seem to live as long.

You just let me know and I'll tell you how to make em last...

and keep an eye out for a look-alike replacement or two!

My son thought one tossed out as it's bowl broke was a gonner (he was thirteen...the son) and tossed it. When my four year old daughter and I wqent to pay past respects at the trash can, it flipped, and lived with us for another five years.
