She Needs, Likes, ALL Attention
This is not an easy one. Ignore as much as you can. If you are a believer of the bible, simply say FATHER FORGIVE HER FOR SHE KNOWS NOT WHAT SHE DOES! People like her, often will not change. You will have to adjust. Try tuning out and tuning in enough to nod or say yes, un huh! My experience indicate that people like that often do not know when another is not paying them attention.

8 ball,
That does sound painful. Maybe your mother-in-law is being a little petty, just for the attention. Some people have trouble communicating that need without being rude or obnoxious. Maybe she doesn't even realize it. If she's at least tolerable sometimes, maybe you could offer to go shopping or to lunch together, without the kids (if that's possible), then have some genuine heart-to-heart girl talk. Let her choose the subject, and then just listen. Try to be gentle, even if it sounds like rubbish to you. A little attention may go a long way, if you have the time to spare. It can't be easy with two children to care for. I wish you luck in this situation. :)

I don't think there is ever an easy way of handling difficult people especially when it's family... Try to hang in there.
