smartdog, you are right. Plessy established separate but equal, which as

MPO states, never existed.  So why do they want to go back to that?  Or why not?

Competition is one thing but turf wars is another altogether.

MPO, In order to understand my buffalo wing essay you have to be able to

understand analagies.  Chicken wing is to Buffalo wing as Illegal alien is to beautiful American voter.

How are they alike.  The chicken wing was never anyone's favorite until it was spiced and advertised as an appetizer.  Unfortunately, the wing of the chicken is till going to contain a large amount of persticide.

Now the undocumented worker is out of vogue to most people, or invisible, and would become a sought-after voter once it is "spiced" up with legal status and voting rights.  Unfortunately, we assume that there are some "pests" in the group.  Hopefully if we get a good bill, we can weed them out while documenting everyone.

BTW, when did I not address one of your comments?  Sorry!

The dirty little secret is ...

the specter of segregation never left.  For instance, my school district is, like, 99.9% white.  And, it's in Philadelphia.

Btw, how come you never answer any of my comments?

You should be nicer to me ... I outrank you.

P.S. I couldn't understand your "buffalo wing" post from over the weekend.  It didn't make any sense to me.

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean.
Oh, what can it mean?
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen.

King

I agree with the article that this will certainly energize the debate.  Every politician in the country will be all over this one.  That's a good thing (I hope!)

Though Plescey v Ferguson was originally in regards to travel accomodations, it spread to all aspects of civil life including education - and probably rightly so.  My first reaction seems to be the same as yours: we're going backwards.  But, I have to admitt, I'm also well aware of the fact the public schools, everywhere, are hurting.  There are a lot of problems with them.  So, if trying something new (old) is what we have to do to make a little progress then so be it.  I don't want to go backwards in  terms of race relations, but I'm tired of seeing our kids get the short end of the stick.  We'll see what happens.

Thanks for sharing this
