as someone who has done lots of hospice work, I can appreciate the beauty of someone leaving this world however sad it is to those left behind.

Such a collection of images.  Most of us can only hope to be memorialized in such a way.  Melanie may have physically died, but she's certainly living on in this loving post.  Possibly she'd never been to Canada in her life, but I guess you could say she just crossed the border into my thoughts here, thanks to your writing...
