Offbeats, thanks for sharing your opinion!

I agree with you.  That said, I just renewed my Sam's club membership for one more year.  I debated long and hard, wondered if I spent enough time at Sam's to justify the $40 price.  Not really sure that I do, but decided to give it one more year.  My visits there have definitely decreased, and I rarely shop at Walmarts.  I would much rather give the smaller businesses my money -- even if it means making do with less.

None of need all the plethora of goods that these megacorporations have for sale.  You know??

Thanks for letting me know how you really feel. I value your opinion!

Janes

This is one reason I oppose the status of MFT for China...we are saturated with these types of imports and yet it is hard to buy otherwise. Most times I will do without, but I don't shop at Walmart or Sams clubs anymore. I know they have some decent stuff, but not decent enough to get my dine.

They use honey buckets to fertile their fields, but in the US that would be against the law. Now to me that should say we shouldn't buy these items...it's such a double standard!

I'm sure that plays a huge roll.
Outsourcing - now don't get me started on that!  I've seen too much of it in West Michigan and the damaging affects on the economy -- by companies that are fiscally very solvent but just want to make ever higher profits and make the share holders even wealthier. Which I can relate to, as well, since I'm into investing . . . . Ahhhh, such a complex issue.

I wonder if Americans are looking for lower prices ...
because the economy isn't as great as the government would lead us to believe. Could it be that our corporations are outsourcing our manufacturing base and importing Mexicans to do what menial jobs are left here?

that's sad, kingmi, and meanwhile there are some great old

houses in the city just crying out for refurbishing.  But people like pretty new houses and condos so they turn corn and bean fields into, like you said, condos.

I don't recall the stats but here in Michigan farms are disappearing by the thousands of acres . . . quickly, all to development, of course.

JanesO, One of the last big patches of sorn and soy product that we see
on our way to and from school everyday, has been turned into a community of ticky-tacky condo's, a clubhouse, a daycare center and a strip mall.  Very sad indeed!

Yeah, kingmi, and it's sickening.

The thought of losing all these pristine farms to development is sad.

I'm just not into big business I guess, whether it's agribusiness or huge housing developments.

Burly, it's so disgusting to think about -- using human waste

as a fertilizer.  Gross!  And regarding Walmart and cheap goods, yeah, I can relate to that.  It is human nature. But this human is doing her part to save more, to buy less, to buy quality (preferably American made whenever possible) and to support small farmers.

Thanks for your considerable two cents!

Jane
Why do you think Walmart is the world's biggest merchandiser? People go for the price.. its just human nature. I was in the Army in Korea in the 50's. I saw how they fertilized their crops. I never ate any. Some of my friends did and many came down with amoebic dysentery which took years to overcome! Why do you think tuberculosis is making a comeback in this country? Third world migrants, never vaccinated and carrying the bacillus, finding their way into our country! The older I get, the less I understand!
