Losing Ember hurt even more because she had just started trusting me. I wonder, though, if she trusted me only because she started getting unwell. I think animals instinctively know sometimes to come to a human when they're in trouble.

Take your time getting another babe. We can't really replace anything we've lost that we loved, but loving something else helps.
I haven't heard of Phipps disease. What ailment is that?

How very sad, I am sorry because I can relate to that now.
I lost my Calypso, she was such a pal, and she got Phipps Disease and they had to put her down.
Maybe I'll get another one day, but I'm not sure yet.
