I sure understand here... when I was in graduate school, I was a dormitory director for a small dorm of mostly black women. For no reason other than my color, I was instantly hated. I could say a lot more, but won't. Nothing I did to try to help worked...

Jaz a great post. We all are something, have something someone does not
like I say a lot of it is junk. You can say hello wrong and to whomever any color or religion and be called a racist. We need to get over it on all sides.

Jazwolf,
This story is a another of many in a sad string of misunderstandings and misplaced anger. I think it is such a tender issue because it continues to be so close to home for so many of us. It touches everyone differently, but it's still a sensitive area. I know it is for me. I'm fortunate to have been exposed to so much diversity and so much culture early in my life. (Thank Sesame Street, too.). I went to college and served in the army, and I have the advantage of extensive exposure and education that many people either just do not have the opportunity to get, or seek, or sometimes even want. Thanks. :)

Kudos to you for rising above your roots.
And rent the Julia Roberts pre-Pretty Woman film Mystic Pizza for a bit of Portuguese prejudice in New England. I once had the racism accusation hurled at me for using the word shout-out. Hey, it was what the media used in magazines and newspapers, but apparently I was a racist for using it.
