You knocked my socks off with this one.  And you've reminded me that I've been away from it too long.  Well, maybe that'll change soon.  Glad to be back reading you.  Beautifully done, Muser

muser...

Love is knowing my hubby is there for me in all things.  It is doing all I can, with his happiness my motive, and watching him return that love and caring as we walk this life together.

It is wonderful that you too, have found happiness.

TAPS- It is so very good to hear from you. I have had you on my mind.
I felt that something was wrong, and I have been concerned about you... I am glad that you have "resurfaced". Those who know me know that there are times I disappear for healing, peace, writing, reflecting, self-pitying, or just taking off for some alone... time to merely sit and watch the sea. They are always comforted when I send a brief message simply telling them I've gone off radar for awhile...they have gotten used to my sabbaticals...and my lack of explanation for them when I return...

In closing, I think you will be very interested to hear that I began the first version of this post with answers children gave when asked "What is Love?" So thank you so very much for leaving those beautiful quotes from those innocent "babes" who define the profound in such delightful language!

Offbeats, what an awe inspiring comment . Thank you. I am hoping that
you will find the true love you seek, or that when you least expect it...he will find you. It is not impossible...nothing is impossible. There are those who will laugh or sneer... but when I was over being heartbroken, and the numbness of it started wearing off, I realized how lonely I felt. Lonliness, though, felt a lot better than heartache. I got busy volunteering in a soup kitchen that was housed in a large urban church. This particular ministry fed lunch to the city's homeless community. It was fulfilling work, and best of all I was no longer so focused on myself. I was praying for a companion who would love me like I loved him...nine months later I met Max at that church...

fionajean...I would have written this post much differently
about fifteen years ago...just before the time I met Max! That our perceptions change means that we changed also; we continue to grow...evolve. Hopefully, we become not only older but wiser!

muser

I love this post.   I love to think about you in love and being loved.   I enjoyed all the comments here.  I would like to add something that I just love.  It is a group of quotes about love from children ages four through eight who were asked to define love.   They are such precious thoughts:

"Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way."
"When someone loves you, the way she says your name is different. You know that your name is safe in her mouth."
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more."
"When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you're scared she won't love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only does she still love you, she loves you even more."
"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."
"When you're born and see your mommy for the first time.
"Love goes on even when you stop breathing and you pick up where you left off when you reach heaven."
"You have to fall in love before you get married. Then when you're married, you just sit around and read books together."
"Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross."
"You can break love, but it won't die."

I think our perceptions of what love is change as we change.
If you asked me what love was ten years ago, I'd have answered very differently from today. nowadays I find a much more practical side to falling in love - I'd look at compatability first.

scriber, true! but when the fires of lusty passion wane...and happen less
frequently, BUT the flames of love continue to grow bighter and brighter...it gives new meaning to "Come grow old with me...the best is yet to be...the last of life for which the first was made..."

love is sex that lasts more than six months.

Love just IS - when you find someone who is naturally caring in all the little ways...unconditionally.

Passionflower...I'll let you in on a secret...I prayed for a companion who
would truly love me for myself...and who would love me as much as I loved him. My prayer was answered...Max says I now know firsthand that God has a sense of humor!

Muser, thank you so much for this post. I too have that wonder
at this point in life. Nothing is better on this earth. I certainly have had it another way where what was called love was nothing but hurt, anger and worthless. I am blessed by my George. I am delighted you and Max have each other. This is another of your beautiful posts.

Good post...You're very blessed to have found love at any age.
It's difficult to find and even more hard to keep. At least you know how precious it is and you're thankful.

here we go..:)

I'm glad you said romantic love, because the Christian "agape" kind can feel like a hair shirt... Love is when time stands still, when there is a current between you when you touch, when freshly-fallen  frangipani flowers cover the ground where you walk and you take one home, and when a single touch is a thousand words unspoken....Love is more than words... (as the song says..)
