Promoting Myth
Xeno, I am so surprised that someone of your intelligence and seeker of knowledge would promote this awful and ignorant myth about circumcision. It is ethnocentric and undermines the reality of billions of men throughout history that never conceived of the awful notion of genital mutilation for "cleanliness and comfort reasons (paraphrase)." There are tribes in the world today who still have their foreskins attached and they live in jungles where there are shrubs to run through and no concrete about to keep out the dirt that surrounds them, yet, they are healthy men and have healthy penises without circumcision.
The Hebrews began this gross phenomenon in their culture to SET THEM APART from the gentiles that surrounded them and to make the appearance of manhood evident in a perpetual state, not just in an aroused state and as a sacrifice of sexuality to their God--sexuality being the greatest innate human behavior and natural source of life--
All I could say in kindness about this pervertion of nature, is that the Hebrew God must have meant for faith and religion to be a very private matter and not something "worn on the sleave" for all to see. Add Jesus' admonition to "pray in secret" and that supports the intention of privacy in religion and faith.
I am an ardent fan, my Left Handed Man, so I hope you don't take this as an offense.
