I can just picture this scene. You described it in a very matter-of-fact way, and we were able to read your difference of approach to Little Abel through the dialogue you recorded. I liked the way that all the men seemed to settle for a deeper, more romantic line of questioning despite their earlier laddish bravado. Instead of denigrating Abel's conquest at the end, they seemed to be envious of him finding love.

Your straightforward depiction, showing not telling, reminded me of a Hemingway or Steinbeck style. Good writing.
