shypettite,
What a thoughtful gift, to write this for your friend.  Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us, also.  :)

and all of you, who read my post "Cognac Toast for My Friend's 32 Birthday". Thank you so much for all your help and comments. I made this present for  my friend. He was shocked and he loved it so much. He liked the idea and all this story and of course, the bottle of congac, too. I am your debtor now.

thank you for your birthday wishes
I read some of your greetings as if you wrote them for me- they are very warming. And as for your cognac toast- is it where you want it to be yet? I loved all of it- but the closing paragraph is my favorite, it even if the last paragraph stood alone I think it would be a perfect toast. Or any way you cut it really, I see that people are having a hard time finding fault with your toast because it has so much heart in it- I am confident that however you present it your results will be rewarding for both of you. Your friend is lucky to have such a thoughtful talented friend in his life.

Hello, "Shy".......I think the gift is lovely, touching and.....
So are your wishes in your own words. Don't make them perfect, they are perfect just the way you wrote them. The words are from your heart. We all understand the meaning, and to be honest, you did a darn good job of tying these thoughts together. Good for you.

shypettite.....
do not change a thing! Your friend will enjoy having your writing exactly as YOU would say it! He will appreciate your effort more and know it is from your heart if you leave it as it is.

Here's how I would handle the first three paragraphs:
Once upon a time... no, wait!  This isn't a very good beginning.  It sounds like a fairy tale, or something.  Let's try this again:

32 years ago, somewhere in France, a certain someone was working his fingers to the bone, attempting to make the best armagnac on Earth.  And, 32 years ago, in an old, dark basement, a certain someone was pouring the brew into those big, wooden barrels, before he began what would be a long, long wait.

32 years - when you break it down, that's 24 hours a day ... 7 days a week ...  4 weeks a month ... 12 months a year ... times 32.  An eternity?   No, not quite.  It just seems like it.
