babe -- fascinating the rules the older generation was

willing to break or bend, eh?  We were allowed to play a few non card games growing up, but I think a lot of the mentality was against idleness in general.  "Idle hands are the devil's workshop" is what I sometimes heard growing up!

Great name -- "Helmik."

I have been told my great grandfather Helmik was a Free Lutheran and they didn't believe in playing with a regular deck. He would play Rook, though, and cheat terribly. I don't think they liked dancing but they brewed their own beer.
