This Was Similar to Tattling

It was discouraged, and for the life of me I have not been able to determine.  It took almost 3 years working as an assistant principal before I was able to convince the principal and staff that at the elementary level students who tattle, should not be given a consequence for tattling because they have not learned to differentiate.  They needed to be taught and the teachers needed to be sensitive to the needs of the students who are victimized by classmates in areas when no one is around. As opposed to listening to find out if Johnny has been poked, etc., the child is sent away and often back to be further victimized.

We finally adopted a policy that required teachers to determine whether the report was one of tending to the business or another or one in which the child was being physically or verbally harmed.  It helped, yet I know that it was not followed 100%.  Good post!

Straightforward
From my youth, I learned that whistle blowing, informing, telling tales, spilling the beans, tattling, were all akin and that they were to be avoided if at all possible.   That made it very hard for me to participate in a part of nursing that is absolutely necessary--that of reporting the possibility or signs of abuse.   It is very hard to find a happy medium on the subject of blowing the whistle.

Straightforward, I once knew a Father who had four children, and
he had a different whistle for each child.    They could be in a large mall, and he could whistle each one of them to his side within minutes!

Straightforward,

This is a nice post and some great comments as well. I agree with all of you in theory.

I am not sure the definitions of what is corruption, an alarmist and a whistle blower. The standard for who are those at risk. Are those at risk only children? Are those who can not help themselves only children? Is the risk viewed only through the eyes of the viewer and may or may not be the one at risk. Is not a whistle blower an exposer of anything that is contrary to what is right, fair and balanced for the greatest number of people? When does whistle blowing become a cry for one to simply have things overturned into what they personally or a group wants. 'I'm telling because I want my way. I may or maynot tell the truth.'

This is a very important subject. What I consider right you may not. Be blessed.

All I have to say is thank my lucky stars there are whistle blowers
who take risks to expose corruption.  The alarmists, now them I could do without, but then I guess it just makes it that much more important to make children informed consumers of info so they can discriminate between the two once adults.

As Long as it is Not Similar to "Crying Wolf"
I feel with corruption it is necessary to blow the whistle, especially when the safety and welfare of people unable to stand up for self is necessay.  Blowing carelessly for self centered purposes, I have a problem.  Nice post!
